Seven years after his wife has passed away, businessman Aoyama sets out in search of a new wife. A film producer he is acquainted with arranges an audition for him and Aoyama becomes enchanted with Asami, a former ballet dancer who is unable to dance any longer, due to her physical mutilation. Little does he know that this so very sensitive girl wreaks vengeance on all men who have ever abused her. The movie is classic Miike, an extreme psycho thriller featuring heavily tattooed thighs, rough whisky, acupuncture needles, piano strings and a number of unsettlingly frightening instances of manipulated time. This 1999 cult classic will be screened at VERA Zienema on 35mm celluloid. Miike’s latest feature, First Love, will be screened at Forum Groningen this edition of IFFRiG as well.
