The charismatic Ethiopian singer Etenesh Wassie has a distinctive voice similar to Billie Holiday. In the early 90’s she made an impression on people in the music business with her adventerous improvisations on traditional Azmari music, and as of today she still never fails to take risks and to impress. She met the French guitarist Mathieu Sourisseau in 2007, who will be intensifying Wassie’s unique voice with innovative constructions on acoustic bass. On double-bass there’s Sébastien Bacquias, adding even more power and warmth to the sound. Influences of jazz, blues en rock come together with Wassie’s unique roots in Ethiopian music to create a surprising, fresh whole.
