On 1 June the very first Queer Pride will be taking place in Groningen! To mark the occasion, we will be screening SAUVAGE, Camille Vidal-Naquet’s striking and wonderful feature film debut.

SAUVAGE is a gritty yet sympathetic portrait of a young homosexual hustler, Leo, who plies his trade on the streets of Strasbourg. Since he has been working as a prostitute for quite some time, he knows that customers can be anything ranging between nice and bizarre or dangerous. Despite the risks, he doesn’t consider stopping, but hopes to find a bit of love and tenderness mixed in with his work. One night he encounters Canadian businessman Claude, who becomes enamoured of him. They develop a relationship and full of caring, Claude wants to change his existence, but the question is whether Leo wants to commit and leave his working world behind.

In order to understand this world of prostitution, the director immersed himself in it by volunteering for a care organisation providing assistance to boys and young men working in the Bois de Boulogne near Paris. Vidal-Naquet fully acknowledges that his movie would not be the same without the excellent acting of the main lead Félix Maritaud (120 BPM, KNIFE + HEART), who won an award in Cannes for his work.
