Detective Mark McPherson (Dana Andrews) investigates the murder of the charming and enchanting Laura Hunt (Gene Tierney). While searching for answers, he becomes completely captivated by her murder. Who did it? Is it the imperious, decadent dandy Waldo Lydecker? Is it Laura’s parasitic playboy fiancé, Shelby Carpenter? Her glamorous Aunt Ann Treadwell? Or loyal housekeeper, Bessie Clary?
