I am very pleased to announce that Vanity Box will perform in the Vera Downstage on April 6! This four-man formation from Groningen consists of Downstage colleagues Hugo Heinen and Yorick Karseboom, fellow Veraan Julia Bekker and good acquaintance Sybolt Friso.

Yo La Tengo, the Magnetic Fields and Luna are good examples of Vanity Box’s music. A warm blanket of soft songs that continue to dream until suddenly a heavier change comes and wakes you up for a moment. Just for a moment, because even with those pieces you still feel that typical fuzzy 90s alternative sound that will always make you feel right at home.

In addition, Vanity Box knows quite well how to execute this vibe in a technical manner. Not surprising, considering the band consists of experienced musicians with previous stage experience from other bands. Hugo with The Mudd, Yorick with Shitfaced Mermaids, Julia with Potgrond and Sybolt with the Walden.

I’m only able to give you these praises for their coming performance, since they currently only have demos online. Their first performance was last December as a support act for the EP release of my own band (Plain Bizarre). This performance on April 6 will now be their third. With their first performance I didn’t doubt for a second whether they would play well and whether it would be a match with our own sound. I was sure it would be fine, without hearing much. And it did. Just like you certainly know that as well now you’ve finished reading this piece. | Hille
