Richard Postma is no stranger to the Kelderbar. Some know him as the curly-haired man who (whether you want them or not) constantly hands out cat stickers. Others know him from his rich musical career. Postma is the founder and face of Tartarus Records and a musician in bands such as Swerve, Meditation, and Ortega, and formerly in Suffering Quota. It’s clear that this man has made a significant contribution to the music scene in Groningen. The common thread in Richard’s projects: loud guitars, urgency, and embracing the darker aspects of life.

For his new project, Vigil, the last two elements remain, but this time the loud guitars are replaced with acoustic ones. Vigil creates ambient folk music that reminds me of Steve von Till or the more recent De Mannen Broeders (the new project by Colin van Eekhout (of Amenra) and Broeder Dieleman). Slow, dark chords and expansive vocals take you deep into the darker aspects of life. On November 23rd, Vigil will bring this to life in our Kelderbar. The Kelderbar has many faces and is often a place of warmth, sweat, dancing, and fun. However, Vigil will take us back to the Kelderbar of old: an ancient medieval catacomb, where you can be enveloped by the darkness and cold of the approaching winter. Only the music can offer us warmth and hope. I’m looking forward to it! | YORKO
