C’est une merveille! Thus wrote a Frenchman on Bandcamp about the album The Book of Lies by White Magic For Lovers. It is the most recent musical project of Thomas White, who in the early 2000s formed the psychedelic rock group The Electric Soft Parade together with his brother Alex. White Magic For Lovers is less rock-oriented, but just as psychedelic. On The Book of Lies, released on Valentine’s Day 2025, we hear a dreamy blend of synth, saxophone, guitar, and flute, at times briefly reminiscent of Robert Wyatt. Last October, the band released a cover EP featuring some of their biggest influences – Low, Skeeter Davis, Hope Sandoval, and Drugstore. Another Bandcamp review described it as: “If ‘optimistic sadness’ were an album.”
