‘’Hiroshima mon amour’’ is a French New Wave movie from the late 50s. The film depicts a romance between a French women and a Japanese man set in post-war Japan, where the ramifications of the atomic bombings still linger. Nominated for a palme d’or in 1959 and an academy award for best screenplay in 1960. Directed by: Alain Resnais.

The movie will be introduced by Hugh McDonnell, PhD student at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen. He has an expertise in the political, social and cultural history of twentieth-century France and Spain. McDonnel will present Hiroshima mon Amour in its historical context.
