VERA X BLOG
Tuesday 1 JulyKeti Koti celebration
Met DJ Lowpro + Spoken Word van Michael ter Maat + Expositie
Keti Koti is an important holiday not only for the descendants of the people who were freed from slavery in the Dutch colonies, but for all Dutch citizens, as a moment to reflect on a painful part of the national history. That is why we, as a group of people within VERA who are concerned with the inclusivity of our club (we call ourselves VERA Inclusief), have decided that it is about time that Keti Koti also becomes part of our annual program. Together with BLOG (Black Ladies of Groningen) we have joined forces to organize an event on July 1st.
The evening starts at 19:00 with the screening of ‘Katibo Ye Ye’, a documentary about how the history of slavery still influences our daily lives. You can get tickets for the documentary screening here.
After that, there is a free celebration with spoken word and music. Everyone is welcome to listen to Spoken Word by Michael ter Maat from 21:00, there is an exhibition in the hallway and from 21:30 you can dance in the basement with DJ Lowpro. All the way until the day is over.
