‘Queendom’ is a raw and poetic portrait of Gena Marvin, a Russian DIY drag queen who refuses to be oppressed. In sky-high heels and out-of-the-box costumes, Gena moves through frosty landscapes and the hostile streets of Moscow. Persistent and unapologetic while the threats and arrests keep coming, we still see a vulnerable side behind the scenes. This impressive debut from Agniia Galdanova has justifiably won several awards, including the Grand Jury Next:Wave Award at CPH:DOX and the Audience Award at the Zurich Film Festival. In addition, the film was nominated for Best Documentary at the IDA Awards and shortlisted for the 97th Academy Awards.
