Eighties dark wave
The Turkish band She Past Away takes the best of The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, and Clan of Xymox, blending it with minimalist Turkish poetry. Founded in 2006 by members Volkan Caner and Doruk Öztürkcan, the darkwave duo combines their signature ’80s post-punk guitar sound with haunting synths and stark, ghostly lyrics that grapple with themes of anxiety, nihilism, and the darker sides of human existence.
In 2021, She Past Away last performed at VERA, playing to a sold-out crowd. Now, the duo—widely regarded as one of the flagbearers of the contemporary darkwave scene—is making their return!
Support aux animaux is a Swedish darkwave artist with a passion for the dark atmosphere of 80s goth, occultism, and horror films. On stage, she effortlessly alternates between vocals, bass guitar, and the theremin—her “source of magic” and the only instrument played without touch. Her music delves into themes such as animal rights, feminism, and inner struggles. In late 2023, aux animaux released her debut album Body Horror, which she wrote, produced, and mixed herself, with mastering by Doruk Öztürkcan of She Past Away.
