In the late 90s Dutch folk singer Sophie Straat grew up in the Pijp in Amsterdam, she writes about societal standards and wrongdoings. Sophie Straat got a major headstart in her career, she won an Edison in the caterogy ‘Hollands’ (Dutch music) for her debut EP ’ T is niet mijn Schuld’, the single ‘Tweede Kamer’ was a summerhit in collaboration with Goldband, shared the stage with Andre Hazes in Ziggo Dome and her folk songs accumulated over 4,5 million streams in total. Sophie Straat played at festivals such as Oerol, Best Kept Secret, Wildeburg and Lowlands. Sophie can be called the undisputed queen of the new generation of protestsingers.

Her new single ‘MANNEN’ might be the most traditional folk song so far, consisting of barrel organs, harmoniums, accordions, mellotrons and a male choir. The message behind this song is far from traditional, it talks about patriarchy in modern times and especially what’s still wrong about it.
