On October 22nd we will be visiting the wondrous and wonderful world of the grandmaster of Japanese animation: Hayao Miyazaki.

The Wind Rises is an ode to the tempestuous life of the visionary aviation engineer Jiro Horikoshi (1903-1982). It makes no difference to Horikoshi whether he is designing a paper airplane or a full-scale bomber: as long as his design is airworthy and reaches its target swiftly in elegant flight. As far as he is concerned there is no greater miracle than an aircraft.

In his final film, Miyazaki did not create a marvellous fantasy world like in his other creations, but delves deep into the moral dilemmas of designing warplanes. The Wind Rises is an epic tale of love, perseverance and dedication.
