On Sado Island, off the coast of Japan, Hachirobe Nishihashi, a master puppeteer from the Bunya-Puppet theatre has been practicing his art for many decades. Dressed in black, fully masked and invisible, he has spent a lifetime manipulating life-size Bunraku puppets. The Bunraku form was originally developed as a place to discuss love affairs and scandals: puppets can change gender, become ghosts, can love, can die and come back to life again.
