In the spirit of IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, Interphobia and Biphobia), Zienema will be screening a touching transgender drama about discrimination, loss and love. Transwoman Marina is a young waitress who is pursuing a singing career. She has been in a relationship with the twenty-year-older Orlando for years, but when he dies unexpectedly, her whole life is shattered. Instead of being able to mourn her lover, suddenly Marina is treated with suspicion.

The Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Lelio cannot be accused of superficiality. In his (still modest) oeuvre we see a huge interest in two major themes: family and identity. In Lelio’s newest feature film, Una Mujer Fantástica, these two themes are once again evident and collide with each other in a very creative way. The film has managed to win several prominent prizes, including an Oscar for best foreign film.

UPDATE: After the screening, the Groningen Feminist Network Film Club will give the stage to Deyone Guiseppi who will share some of her expierences of transphobia, as well as racism while dating and in relationships.
