Vieux Farka TouréMALI
Soulful guitar grooves and desertblues
Singer songwriter and guitarist Vieux Farka Touré is the second son of legendary Malian guitarist Ali Farka Touré. For most of his early career, his father counteracted his musical desires and urged him to become a soldier to avoid the many problems he himself had endured in his path as a musician. While staying true to his West African roots, Vieux’s music also incorporates influences such as American blues, rock, jazz, pop and Latin.
After his self-titled debut in 2007, he established his reputation as a world-class guitarist. It even earned him a show at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in June 2010. Vieux Farka Touré has collaborated with numerous musicians from different genres. His 2011 studio full-length The Secret included appearances by Dave Matthews, John Scofield and Derek Trucks. He also recorded two multilingual albums with Israeli pianist Idan Raichel under the name The Touré-Raichel Collective.
