A surrealist masterpiece, which is on the one hand a satire of society, religion and the established order through metaphorical attacks, and on the other a glorification of passionate love. Upon its release, the film caused a scandal and was banned. The film has lost none of its power, its lyrical drive and its poetic purity. In the background one can detect influences of Sade, Marx and Freud, but due to the originality of this work there is no direct influence. This film is a “witness” to the era of the surrealist revolution. Screenplay by Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dali. Camera work by Albert Duverger.
