Glory tells the story of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, one of the U.S. Army’s first African-American regiments in the American Civil War. The film follows the regiment of former slaves and freedmen who experience prejudice and racism from both friend and foe within their regiment.
Director Edward Zwick is probably better known to Dutch audiences for films such as Legends of the Fall, The Last Samurai and Blood Diamond, and as is evident with this one is that he is not shy of epic sentiments in spectacular locations. Therefore, the film here and there may be a bit over the top, but is it really any different from what you would have expected from Hollywood?
