“I Still Love San Antone”. Dat is de titel van de nieuwe plaat van Garrett T. Capps die heel goed weer geeft hoe hij denkt over zijn geboorte- en woonplaats San Antonio, TX. Ter extra ondersteuning vinden we ook nog de volgende tekst op de bandcamppagina voor deze plaat: “San Antonio is by far the most musical city in Texas. Many of y’all might not be aware of this fact, because you’ve got to lift the rug to find the good stuff – conjunto at the ice house, country western made for two-stepping, Mexican American heavy metal, space jazz, lowdown and jump blues, freestyling rap en espanol, mega horn sections, high school mariachis, western swing, the Sir Douglas Quintet and the “First Integrated Nightclub in the South.”

Deze plaat is evenals de voorganger “Life Is Strange” een plaat zonder de begeleidingsband Nasa Country. Dat betekent dat de muziek wat aardser en ingetogener is dan de platen met Nasa Country, zoals de beide daaraan voorafgaande albums “Everyone Is Everyone” en “People Are Beautiful”.

Ook komen we de volgende introductie tegen op zijn website: “GTC is a Bad mofo. He makes cowboy kraut with his band NASA Country & also lots of Tex-Mex rock n' roll. He is San Antonio's resident cosmic country gonzo honky tonk weirdo freak. He is a national treasure in Holland. He can usually be found at The Lonesome Rose, the bar he owns in the city he was born in.

Zoals hierin ook te lezen houdt Garrett T. Capps van Nederland. En zeker heeft hij een speciale band met TakeRoot. Niet alleen werd zijn eerste NL-tour geïnitieerd met een uitnodiging voor TakeRoot 2018 (dat hij ’s-middags om 16.00 uur met zijn toenmalige begeleidingsband The Three Timers mocht openen in de Foyer met een welgemeend “Good Morning”), ook in latere jaren stond hij weer op dat festival. Soms niet in de Oosterpoort, zoals in 2021 (Huize Maas, TakeRoot downtown ivm Covid) en 2023 (VERA, TakeRoot Pre-Show).

Het is dan ook deze laatste show, de TakeRoot Pre-Show in VERA op 3 november 2023, waar we met jullie in deze aflevering van Beauties of the Underground Live op terugkijken. We wensen jullie weer veel kijk- en luisterplezier.
