Dark, abrasive gothic rock
Kjetil Nernes is a survivor in every sense of the word. As the driving force behind Norwegian rock band Årabrot, he spent years prowling the grimy European noise-rock underground before everything changed in 2014. Diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, Nernes came close to death. His recovery reshaped both his life and his music, resulting in the explosive The Gospel (2016).
Today, Nernes lives and works in a deconsecrated church in rural Sweden with musician Karin Park and their daughter. From there, Årabrot continues to mutate: dark, abrasive and impossible to pin down, pulling from noise rock, post-punk, metal and gothic rock. In 2026, Årabrot returns with a brand-new album — and another chapter in a story built on survival and reinvention.
