New York City art rock band BODEGA formed in 2016 from the ashes of the trickster collective Bodega Bay. Led by songwriters Ben Hozie and Nikki Belfiglio, the band combines sharp, philosophical lyrics with restless, unpredictable live performances, never playing the same setlist twice. Both are multidisciplinary artists: Hozie is a filmmaker, while Belfiglio creates the artwork for the band’s releases. Their new album, All Inside Aquarium, channels the late ’80s and early ’90s, drawing on influences including The Stone Roses and Jane’s Addiction. Guided by the mantra “the best critique is self-critique,” BODEGA turns wit inward as often as outward.
