On the 22nd of January, 2019, we’ll travel back in time to the America of the 1930s. In these dark years of economic depression and international crisis there was one movie star whose light pierced the darkness: Charlie Chaplin! His biting satire and brilliant sketches left an incredible mark on movie history. One of his biggest classics is of course The Great Dictator: the world-famous parody of the Nazi regime.

It goes without saying that this is THE movie to show on the very first cooperation between VERA’s own Zienema and the historical study association GHD Ubbo Emmius! Film and history will unite in a night dedicated to classic Hollywood: bowler hats, photo boots and the old-fashioned hot dogs!

The movie will commence with an introduction by an expert on the theme of the movie. Of course, you’ll also be able to ask questions! After the introduction, the movie will be shown with an authentic projector. The dedicated music will show that silent films weren’t as silent as you’d expect!
