Poetic and ever changing punk-fanfare
De Kift is a poetic, multi-headed fanfare-punkband. Chock-full of energy, intimacy, melancholy and euphoria. Add a dash of controlled chaos (on- and off-stage) and you’ll get the magnetizing mix of De Kift!
Their musical family was founded in 1988 and has since then released twelve albums, many different theatre-, film- and collaborative projects and has been touring in and outside of the Netherlands. Their upcoming album, unnamed as of yet, will get added to this list in the upcoming fall. This album goes into topics like vulnerability, anger and angst, but also has a more positive side, bringing light into the darkness.
De Kift will go back on the road after the release of this album, landing back on the VERA Mainstage once again.
Musician and writer Nyk de Vries is a true literary performer. Many will have seen this former Frisian-Groninger perform by now, from Crossing Border to Lowlands. His first solo album, Hoeveel woorden, was recently released, showcasing his unique blend of music and text. The album includes parlando tracks as well as straightforward pop songs, with many of the lyrics being autobiographical.
He was born in a working-class farming village in Friesland and now lives in gentrified Amsterdam-East. This contrast appears in multiple songs where he tries to reconcile the opposing forces within himself. Nyk began his artistic journey as the singer of the guitar band The Amp, with whom he performed at VERA as early as 1990. He was later connected for many years with Meindert Talma’s band, with whom he also founded the literary magazine De Blauwe Fedde.
