“Ezin atera” roughly translates to “unable to get out” in English, a sense of hopelessness, gasping for air, the feeling of being trapped. This feeling lies at the heart of the inspiration behind the debut album by Spanish band Orsini, called, you guessed it, “Ezin atera”. According to Orsini themselves, the album is about the hopelessness of existence in these turbulent times, about gentrification in Spanish cities, but also about the hopeful realization that a strong DIY “spirit” can help us resist all of this.

Musically, it brings to mind the best jangle/post/punk of the ’70s and ’80s. Jangly guitars drenched in echo, tight drums and new wave vocals. Unfortunately, the more direct themes of the songs are lost on me, as my Spanish doesn’t get much further than being able to order a cold glass of beer. Which, coincidentally, goes very well with listening to music. In a basement bar, for example. On what do you say, let’s get crazy, October 18th? Around 11pm? You might even get to see a nice band while you’re at it! | Yorko
