Sometimes you come across a band name that immediately makes you think: I need to Google this! And sure enough, the name of this ethereal doom band refers to the Thwaites Glacier, also known as the “Doomsday Glacier”. This gigantic mass of ice is bigger than Cambodia and is being closely monitored because of its potential to cause a significant rise in sea levels. A natural wonder this imposing obviously calls for an equally overwhelming band.

Prophets of Thwaites certainly live up to their name, with massive, hypnotic riffs and slow grooves, dreamy vocals and layered guitar work. Their sound effortlessly shifts between suffocating heaviness and breathtaking vulnerability.

On March 17, 2026, Prophets of Thwaites released their EP Vulnerant omnes ultima necat, recorded with guest drummer Nico Beemster (Accabadora). The EP reached 28th place in the Doom Charts Top 40 for March 2026 and received international acclaim from the likes of Jam Yeti Music Blog, Doomed For Metal and Outlaws Of The Sun.

Following a well-received release show at Musykfabryk (Heerenveen) and a mini-tour with stops at Vondelbunker, The Cave and Neushoorn Café, the band signed with Romanian underground label Pest Records, which released the EP on CD on July 7, 2026. Now they’re descending upon our Kelderbar to crank up the sweat levels. Doom night! See you there | Levi
