Frans Kalf is a cheerful cynic with a soft spot for sharp lyrics, melancholy and a healthy dose of self-deprecation. Half Amsterdammer, half Ghent native, he makes poetic Dutch-language music that blends chanson, indie and folk. Think the eccentricity of Spinvis, the lyrical punch of Ramses Shaffy and the melancholy of Jacques Brel, but with a character entirely his own.

With disarming songs about love, doubt and the absurdity of everyday life, Kalf can make you laugh just as easily as he can leave you with a lump in your throat. With his long-awaited debut album under his arm and a four-piece band behind him, he brings his gentle melancholy and Cruyffian charm to VERA.
