Poignant debut movie in which pregnant Samia finds work and shelter with a single mother in Casablanca. Director Maryam Touzani’s intelligent character study reveals her great talent with a beautiful story about overcoming hardship and facing the future fearlessly.

Even though Abla is busy raising her daughter and running her small bakery shop, she offers Samia a place to stay in her home, provided she leaves after a few days. But Samia turns out to be a welcome addition, and her cakes are in great demand from the local residents. As the women’s working relationship continues, their connection grows stronger and, each in their own way, they get to terms with their past.

Touzani portrays the lives of her characters in a subtle manner, while compellingly exposing sensitive issues such as unmarried pregnant women in the Arab world.
