Voorstelling van het Noorse gezelschap De Utvalgte
Showtimes: 15:00 | 17:00 | 19:00
Duration: 55 minutes
Connections, misunderstandings, and resentment form the basis of a playful, absurdist film and VR installation exploring the role and position of the modern au pair. A sharp-eyed look at the blind spots around class and culture among the ‘new rich’ – all unfolding to the rhythm of virtuosic live jazz improvisation.
Their homes exude wealth, culture, and ‘good taste’. The Asian au pair Maria is always present, yet never truly welcome: her presence disturbs, reveals, unsettles. Seemingly perfect households begin to crack once boundaries blur and the reality of modern ‘servants’ steps in.
This performance by the Norwegian collective De Utvalgte blends live jazz improvisation, virtual reality, short film, and theatre into a layered and confronting experience. You witness three different couples and their au pair, delving into the complex dynamics of power, culture, and social relations. As music drifts through the rooms, the sounds of domestic labor clash with the carefully curated atmosphere of refinement.
With their distinctive style – absurdist, incisive, and empathetic – the Norwegian group De Utvalgte brilliantly exposes the tensions between class, culture, and assigned roles. Homage Au Pair is a tribute to the invisible forces that keep society running and offers a bold reflection on the relationships between class and culture.
