Tron is a typical case of unjustified underappreciation. At the time of its release in 1982, it was the very first movie to use a huge amount of CGI (Computer Generated Imagery), but it didn’t gross as much as distributor Disney had hoped. Perhaps that’s because Tron didn’t get an Oscar nomination for the ‘best visual effects’ category, because the Academy thought that computer-generated special effects would be “cheating”. This argument is now of course unthinkable for a film to not get a nomination.

So that’s why we’re bringing this film to Zienema, because what better place is there to see an underrated cult gem than in our cozy alternative cinema? Tron is the most beautiful ugliest duckling I’ve seen in ages. Who knew that goofy 80s CGI could still be a visual spectacle? Tron proves that it’s possible. Director Steven Lisberger knows how to create an enchanting world like no other. Come and see!
