ST. PATRICK'S DAY SPECIAL
Tuesday 17 MarchDarby O'Gill And The Little People
Robert Stevenson, US 1959
St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make it an all Irish evening. And what could be more Irish than a jolly Hollywood picture that idolizes the island into a fairytale land, full of American and British actors putting on Irish accents that will keep you awake at night? Great craic!
In Darby O’Gill and the Little People, Darby, the old caretaker in the town of Rathcullen, tries to capture a local group of gnomes, better known as leprechauns. When Darby is retired and replaced by young Dubliner Michael McBride, who has a crush on his daughter, Darby himself is captured by the leprechauns. What follows is a charming, over-the-top fairytale full of Irish mythical creatures and songs.
It was a bit tricky to get Guinness on tap, but we’ll provide the Irish spirit (figuratively and literally). Sláinte! -Lucas
