Věra Chytilová’s feminist farce is coming to Zienema: Daisies!

Daisies is political resistance against the oppression of the Czechoslovak government in the sixties and a hostile world. Marie and Marie decide to no longer abide by anyone’s rules and explore the ultimate limits of their freedom. Because what does it matter anyway? This floral, anarchistic film was progressive for the Czech New Wave and consequently banned by its government. However, Chytilová’s magnum opus has been a classic abroad since its release. Now restored in 4K.

Before Daisies, we will screen To My Dearest by local filmmaker Gabrielle Greidanus. A short film about not only a lack of knowledge about a loved one, but also the lack of certainties that come with it. After Emilia has slept with “Dearest”, she starts writing letters to express her feelings for her. It’s a film about obsessive feelings toward someone you don’t really know that well – because you don’t know them that well.

Gabrielle will be at the screening for a Q&A.
